Let's give an example: You need an email template, so you ask a co-worker for one. You and your co-worker know each other's roles, and you would get an email template that fits that role. But let's say you ask an AI model to "give you an email template".

Roles behave like soft templates

A soft template is a flexible behavioral framework that guides how an AI acts, without restricting the responses or logic. It basically steers behavior in different directions.

AI models don't add facts, but they shape how answers are organized, phrased and prioritized. Lets use the above example when asking for an email template.

The model doesn't know what kind of email you need a template for. The cues are missing, so it is asking what the template is needed for, whether it's an apology, job application, or something else.
